A photograph reaches a Limestone Drift page in one of two ways: it is an agency photograph of the water the page is about, or it is a non-posed frame published under a licence that allows reuse. Generic stock, posed anglers and water that is not ours do not qualify. Each one is credited where it appears and again below.
Used under a Creative Commons licence
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, posts its photographs on Flickr labelled “Some rights reserved” under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 licence, which says you “must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.” A federal employee’s work is also public domain in the United States, and the Wikimedia Commons copy of one of these files says so; the credit costs nothing, so it is printed either way.

Credit: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photo by Ryne Salyer, Louisville District (Flickr: LouisvilleUSACE). Source: Flickr. Downloaded from the Wikimedia Commons copy, File:Cave Run Lake.jpg, at 1,920 pixels wide; the original is 6,800 by 5,100. Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 (CC BY 2.0), as labelled on the Corps' Flickr page; the Commons copy calls the same file public domain as a federal employee's work. Changes: Scaled from the 6,800-pixel original to 1,920 pixels wide; shown cropped to the shape of the page header. On this site: Cave Run Lake.

Public domain works of the United States Government
The National Park Service’s terms page says that copyright law does not protect “any work of the U.S. Government”, that material it created “is generally considered in the public domain”, and that “a citation or acknowledgement of the National Park Service as the source is appreciated”. It also asks that a commercial republication’s copyright notice carry the words “No claim to original U.S. Government works”, which is why that line sits in the footer of every page. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service photographs and the Duane Raver paintings on the species guides are listed on the same basis, as each record below states.

What is not here
No photograph from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources or the Tennessee Valley Authority appears on the site, because neither agency’s terms for reuse have been read. No generated image appears anywhere. Where a date is marked “Status pending” above, the source’s own record carries a date that the photograph itself contradicts, or carries none, and we have not found the true one.
