Three things to get right
| What you hear | What the primary sources actually say |
| "Bring cash for the gate." | Card only at Old Hickory Beach. "There is a $5 fee per vehicle for day-use facilities"; the fee machines are captioned "Credit Card Payment ONLY". Laguardo also charges $5 per vehicle for day use. |
| "Cedar Creek has a ramp." | Not on its record. The page lists a campground and "$5.00/vehicle or $2.00/walk-in" day use, and no ramp. Status pending. |
| "Benders Ferry Road gets you to both." | Two addresses, two towns. Cages Bend is 1125 Benders Ferry Rd, Gallatin; Lone Branch is 3791, Mt. Juliet. Nothing we read says the road is continuous: plan them as separate drives. |
The pool, in the Corps' words
Normal pool "approximately 445 MSL"; the record's Bottom of Power is 442 ft. November 2026 drawdown to "443 to 443.5" ft: lowering from 2 Nov, holding through 20 Nov, back to normal pool by 28 Nov (Corps, 15 Sep 2026). Read 442.91 ft at 12:00 UTC, 7 Nov 2026. Live: Corps record ohht1, Elev-Pool.
Low water, in the Corps' words. At low levels "rocks or snags sit closer to the surface"; boaters new to a lake should stay within the designated channel and "pay special attention to any buoys or regulatory markers"; "wearing a life jacket is the best way to stay safe when visiting a Corps of Engineers lake" (Nashville District, 21 Apr 2026, all its lakes; Old Hickory is not named).
