Shaker Village’s $10 canoe launch, a tenth of a river mile above the High Bridge ramp on the Mercer bank. Same pool, same route up the Dix, same artificial-bait rule — and a 12-foot rule the village enforces itself.
| What you hear | What the primary sources actually say |
|---|---|
| “Shaker Landing is a boat ramp.” | Paddle only. Shaker Village: “$10 per vessel. Non-motorized vessels only.” “Fee must be paid and waiver signed in advance at the Welcome Center.” Keys to drive down, or hike the 1.5-mile River Road Trail. |
| “Any level is fine.” | Not above 12 feet. “paddling from Shaker Landing is only permitted when pool 7 of the Kentucky River is at 12 feet or lower.” Level line 859.734.5411; USGS 03286500 at Lock 7 is the Pool 7 stage record. |
| “The Dix is just downstream.” | It is upstream. The Kentucky flows north here; Dam No. 7 sits half a mile below the High Bridge ramp, the Dix enters above it. Artificial bait only once you enter the Dix (301 KAR 1:201 §3(23)). |
Locks 5–14 are closed: a boat launched here cannot leave Pool 7 by water. Dam No. 7 (mile 117.0) is half a mile DOWNSTREAM of the High Bridge ramp (mile 117.5); the Dix is upstream. KU announces spill-gate releases to officials, not the public; no siren is described. Gauges are on the back.
